October in the Faroe Islands has its share of rainy days, and they’re the perfect time to wander through the historic Tinganes peninsula. Here, in the capital city of Tórshavn, you can spend the day:
Meandering through local museums
Learning about Faroese government
Exploring the exhibitions at the Nordic House
After exploring the Tinganes peninsula, stop in at the Mikkeller Beer Festival Faroe Islands (MBFFI), held yearly in either September or October in Tórshavn. One of only four worldwide ( the others are in Denmark, China, and Japan), the festival will feature 30 international breweries from Europe, the USA, and, of course, the Faroe Islands. Your ticket includes:
Access to the most amazing beers
A 10 cl tasting glass
A meet-and-greet with brewers
A 3-hour free bar with unlimited samples
Weather permitting, October is ideal for hiking some of the Faroe Islands’ lower-elevation trails like:
Trælanípa trail: This famous 4.4-mile round-trip trail hike is located on Vágar Island and showcases the famous Lake Sørvágsvatn with its "lake above the ocean" optical illusion. This easy-to-moderate, gentle, and scenic hike consists of a flat gravel path for most of the journey with a short uphill climb at the end. The trailhead is located near the village of Miðvágur and has convenient parking, a reception area with a cafe, and restrooms.
Hvíthamar trail: Located in the Gjáarskarð mountain pass, between the villages of Funningur and Gjógv on Eysturoy Island, this short, easy-to-moderate hike offers stunning panoramic views of the Funningsfjørður fjord and surrounding mountains. The hike is around 0.8 to 0.9 miles (1.2 to 1.5 km) from start to finish and can be completed in 30 to 45 minutes.
Since October weather in the Faroe Islands can often be unpredictable, always check forecasts and avoid high cliffs on stormy days.
After a day of exploring, sit down to a relaxing Faroese meal. Possibilities include:
Áarstova in Tórshavn: A charming woodland setting offering cozy dining with fresh Faroese lamb, fine wines, and Scottish ales.
Fiskastykkið Cafe in the village of Sandavágur on Vágar island: Located in an old salt-cod drying warehouse, Fiskastykkið is an echo from the past. Offerings include local seafood, fish soup, homemade sourdough bread, and coffee.
Moss in Tórshavn: Here you’ll savor a blend of Mediterranean and modern elegance. Frames, prints, and food all live here in an unexpected fusion of art, food, and creative expression.
Katrina Christiansen in Tórshavn: Experience social dining tapas-style (small plates) with food inspired by Faroese tradition and everything nature and the sea have to offer.

Meaning "home" in the local dialect, Hoyma is an intimate, unplugged music festival held in the village of Syðrugøta. The event revives the traditional Faroese practice of house-to-house visiting (húsagonga) by featuring musicians performing acoustic sets inside family living rooms.
Commonly described as an "anti-festival," Hoyma is free of the massive stages, electrical amplifiers, and bright lighting of typical concerts and relies instead on:
Cozy living room venues where around 10 village families open their private homes to strangers and friends alike
Unplugged performances where attendees walk from house to house to enjoy acoustic performances by some of the islands' top musical acts
Traditional Faroese hospitality with after-concert traditional homemade food tasting, local drinks, and Faroese storytelling
Dark skies, hot tubs, and Atlantic views. Take a step into stillness and experience the Faroes’ take on hygge at Ress Spa. Located in Hotel Føroyar in Tórshavn, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved break from your everyday life as you bask in a sanctuary of peace. Ress offers an array of thorough body treatments and a Spa House with heated pools, saunas, and much more.
